Background

Morghan started taking ceramic classes in High School, and fell in love with the medium because it helped her learn to dream. She received her degree in Ceramics and Sociology from Louisiana State University in 2009. Upon graduation, she studied ceramics at Jingdezhen Ceramics Institute in China. In 2011, she moved to Austin, Texas, and started working for different ceramics studios. She was a production potter for Sunset Canyon Pottery and thrower for J.Prichard Designs. She taught ceramics classes at the Dougherty Arts Center, Austin Pottery, Laguna Gloria, Mud Austin and Feats of Clay. In May 2022, she moved to Fort Worth with her dog Mateo and maintains an active studio practice.

Medium and Technique

Morghan makes unique pottery for the modern home. She uses a durable porcelain clay-body to make the forms and applies colorful glazes that add life and dimension to the surface of each piece. She fires to cone 7 in an electric kiln.

Inspiration

Morghan grew up in the military household, which means she moved around a lot. From the orange groves of Florida, the swamps of Georgia, to the mountains of Washington, what moved around with them was her Mom’s love of mid-nineties country kitsch. Her work is inspired by the images and designs her Mom used to decorate their many homes.

Accomplishments

Morghan Gray has received scholarships to study ceramics at Penland School of Arts and Crafts in Penland, North Carolina and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts at Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She shows her work at different art festivals throughout Texas. Some of the art festivals she participated in are Artscape at the Dallas Arboretum, King William Fair in San Antonio, Texas Clay Festival in Greune, Cherrywood Art Fair in Austin, ArtistCo in Austin, Huffhines Festival in Richardson, and Mckinney Arts in Bloom Festival to name a few.
